MD of Pelican Consulting Ltd, was always an adrenalin junkie and used to spend any holiday from his city career looking for an adventure. With a background in risk management across Deutsche and HSBC, he set up Pelican Consulting Ltd, a risk management consultancy in 2005, which advises banks on how to solve complex risk management problems by designing software solutions.
Moving from London to the Cowes, Isle of Wight, Ian was introduced to a new passion, ultra competitive racing on super fast Laser SB3 boats. After spending his first Cowes Week on dry land, he decided to plunge in feet first and set up his own racing team under the title of Pelican Racing, which has become the sports marketing arm of Pelican Consulting Ltd. The thinking behind the marketing extension is simple - racing on SB3s is stripped down, fast and furious and once bitten many clients come back again and again, keen to indulge their competitive spirit. From one boat in early 2008 and a debut performance in the inaugural Laser SB3 Championships, the fleet has grown to 13 boats.
Ian has also developed unique innovation in sailing GPS tracking and live video streaming in collaboration with Microsoft. Using unique technology, all the action from the racing can be streamed to observers on dry land or even back to the desks in London!
